CEC hosts Bat seminar
Bats & Development Seminar held at Chacewater Village Hall, Truro
28th March 2008
Cornwall Environmental Consultants invited Cornwall's architects, developers and planning officers to a free seminar about bats on Tuesday 18th March at Chacewater Village Hall.
Bats are sometimes seen as a nuisance or even as pests or rodents, that get in the way of a potential development or barn conversion. In fact, all species of bat are protected by law and recent survey guideline changes prompted CEC to hold a free seminar for professionals involved in property development, in order to inform them on how to stay within the law.
CEC undertakes bat and barn owl surveys on many different properties, ranging from redundant barns, to houses and schools. Some clients are unaware that the building doesn't even have to have a roof for bats to be present - they can make their home in all manner of places, from tiny crevices in walls to window sills.
CEC Marketing & Admin Officer, Emma Wilson who organised the event said: 'The seminar was very successful, and everyone who attended felt they learnt something new about bats and their conservation, as well as what is involved when it comes to surveying for bats and obtaining a European Protected Species Licence if it is needed.'
